Mobile Food Pantry

Three times a month, on the second Saturday, third Tuesday, and fourth Saturday of each month, we host a mobile food pantry where we distribute grocery carts full of food to families in need throughout Jackson, Banks, Barrow, Clarke and surrounding counties. Within Jackson county alone there are 8,900 people living under the food insecurity rate, and sadly, 4,400 of those are children. With the Feeding Northeast Georgia mobile food pantry, we can feed up to 350 families per truck, providing 10-12 days worth of food.

Through a partnership with our local food bank, we purchase a 48-ft trailer that contains 30,000 pounds of food for just $1200. The food that comes on the trailer varies with each load; it contains a variety of produce, meats, juice, canned goods, snacks, milk, and more. We do not know what is included until we unload it.

The La VaQuita Flea Market and Lanier Tech Commerce campus have graciously allowed us to use their parking lots so that we can distribute food each month. Our Athens area food mobile food bank is in cooperation with the UGA Wesley Foundation. College-aged volunteers staff the fourth Saturday giveaways, serving and loving their community faithfully. The Feeding Northeast Georgia program runs on volunteers! Each truck needs at least 40 volunteers to help unload food, pack it into boxes, and distribute it to families.
